Food & Hygiene
All of our manufacturing sites involved in the manufacture
of packaging for food products operate in environments
complying with the highest hygiene regulations, with
those sites dedicated to food packaging having already
been approved to the latest UK industry standard developed
by the British Retail Consortium and the Institute of
Packaging (BRC/IOP).
Microbiology Laboratory Facility
The facility at Newport Pagnell, is used to verify the
microbiological integrity of the containers produced
and supplied by Nampak Plastics Europe. This ensures
that the product is suitable to be transferred to the
food supply chain, without causing any risk to the end
consumer, from microbiological contamination.
The microbiological analysis that is conducted includes
| TVC |
Total Viable Count All micro-organisms
that may be present |
| Coliforms |
Indicators of hygiene standards and if any are
isolated, there could be a risk of food contamination
further down the supply chain |
| Yeast and Mould |
These micro – organisms have the potential
to cause fermentation in the end product. |
The analysis is conducted by carrying out rinse tests
on all of the containers,
which ensures that every surface that may be in contact
with the end food product , is tested.
In addition to this, there is the ability to carry
out environmental analysis of the sites, using air plates
or contact swabs. This verifies the microbiological
integrity of the production environment.
The laboratory facility is accredited to Labcred, which
is a system that ensures that all tests that are conducted,
follow guidelines and the results produced are consistent.
The facility is subject to an annual external audit
to ensure that standards are maintained.
